Chad Allen

Chad. Born and raised in South West Ohio and later electing to also call West Virginia home, Chad is an outdoorsman at heart. His roots were established in the early years chasing crawdads, nightcrawlers, minnows, and more in local creeks. He has fished the Great Lakes, catching smallmouth bass, perch, and trolling and jigging for walleye. But Chad's heart truly lay in running rivers with jet boats and navigating whitewater in rafts and drift boats to catch smallmouth bass on the fly and traditional tackle. That's when his passion truly ignited. Chad knew from an early age that he had an unparalleled love for the outdoors and all it had to offer. He brings that same passion to his work and is a true outdoorsman.

FAQs

How long have you been fishing?

As of 2022 I’m 39 years old, so if you subtract however old you are when you are able to hold a fishing pole by yourself from 39 that’s how long I have been fishing.

How did you get started in the outdoors?

I think a Hank song said it best. It’s just a family tradition. For real though my dad played a major role in my love for the outdoors.

How did you end up in West Virginia?

I married my wife at a young age of 21 and we couldn’t afford much for travel for a honeymoon, so we went camping in Fayetteville, West Virginia. I now had 2 loves, my wife and West Virginia. (After writing that it sure sounds like the beginnings of a country song) We kept travelling to West Virginia until we finally bought a small place of our own.

How long have you been fly fishing?

As of 2022 about 20 years off and on, you can get discouraged being self-taught. The last 7 years or so I have been a lot more dedicated.

What is your favorite fish to catch?

Freshwater would have to be Smallmouth bass, though a recent trip made me second guess myself with a high fish count day of nice lake run Steelhead. Saltwater it would have to be tarpon, only caught one so far but what a blast.

What makes you a good guide?

My need for perfection from myself. Also not being scared of hard work, coming from pouring concrete and being co-owner of a concrete company for years.

Hobbies growing up besides fishing?

Hunting, hockey, motocross, girls.

Hobbies as an adult besides fishing?

There’s not much that I’m not interested in. Hiking, backpacking, archery, shooting, mountain biking, rock climbing, rafting, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, hunting, fly tying, rod building, hockey, dirt biking, surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, reading, photography, use to kiteboard, and would really like to learn to spearfish.
